The Kensington eatery popular for its pizzas and breads will close on Monday, Nov. 6. Sunday, Nov. 5 will be its last day of service.

A GoFundMe launched by employees says the closing comes after a departure of the head chef, announced on Oct. 16. The workers are now seeking financial help during the transition.

"While we would like nothing more than to continue to provide excellent bread, bagels, pizzas and more for all of our customers and to continue to give our all to help the business flourish, this decision was made without our input and out of our control," the page says.

Funds will be split evenly between the 14 workers impacted by the closure to help sustain us, our families and loved ones during their search for new employment.

"While we were offered one week's pay as a severance package, the owners of Eeva have refused to pay out our accrued Paid Time Off as of this date (11/2/2023,)" the page continues, "and as working class people with many bills to pay and attempting to navigate a difficult job market, we have determined that a single week's pay is sadly inadequate for our needs at this time."

"This is crushing," one customer commented on Instagram. "eeva has been a magical addition to the neighborhood with the warmest and most hospitable people. A great place to celebrate special and ordinary moments alike. Wishing the best for everyone who gave us their best ❤️."
